Halloween Was… Different

I tried to do what I was supposed to do. Well… mostly.

I’ll be honest. I did not pre-wrap my treats in a plastic bag. I mean… really? The day after the province brings in a ban on plastic bags we are supposed to be wrapping Halloween candy in plastic bags? This does not make sense to me.

Otherwise, I tried my best. I was dressed warm, ’cause Saturday evening was chilly when you’re just sitting in one spot, waiting. I had my non-rubber, rubber gloves on. I had my barbecue tongs. I had boxes of treats. And I was sitting in the pumpkin patch.

Well, it was a fake pumpkin patch. The pumpkins were largely of the fake variety, made of plastic and ceramic and some other types of material I am not sure of. I do know that real pumpkins are generally not made of shiny silver and gold material, so I am pretty sure these were fake pumpkins.

I spent almost three hours sitting in that pumpkin patch, but I did not see him. The Great Pumpkin never showed. Since he will from now on only be available to those with the right streaming service, it makes me sad that future generations may never know about the Great Pumpkin. And it’s not like he shows up to your fake pumpkin patch. At least, not mine.

But it was a fun sort of evening. Very different, being all bundled up and sitting outside. And there weren’t a lot of trick-or-treaters, but there were a few.

Some pretty good costumes, too. As near as I could tell.

One other hazard of handing out treats this year was the mask. I was wearing my mask. Not a Halloween mask. The other kind. The kind we all wear on a regular basis these days. But it was sold out. And I wear glasses. Most of the time I was lucky to even know if someone was standing in front of me. Glasses fogging up is going to be an issue this winter.

But I think there were some pretty cool costumes. And yes… Bob Ross and his Happy Little Tree made me laugh, although I had to have it explained to me. I’m blaming it on the fogged up glasses. Although it was more likely my foggy brain.
