Small Electrical Fire Temporarily Shuts Down SSRH Emergency Department

An eventful afternoon at the South Shore Regional Hospital after a shorted light fixture caused a small fire in the ER department.

Seven patients who were being seen in the department were relocated after smoke began to develop from the light fixture around 2:15 this afternoon.

Bridgewater Fire Department responded to the hospital, and was able to disperse the smoke quickly.

NSHA officials say no one was hurt, and an evacuation was not needed at the time.

The Emergency department is once again operational.
