The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says the province has stopped administering a vaccine connected to three reported cases of neurological symptoms in New Brunswick
Dr. Robert Strang says the province has 120,000 doses from the same lot connected to the illnesses.
He says officials have advised healthcare providers not to use it until, at least, Health Canada has finished a review of the situation.
Dr. Strang says this doesn’t mean the flu shot isn’t safe.
“I want to reassure Nova Scotians that the flu shot is a safe and effective way to protect yourself from the flu,” he says. “These events demonstrate that there is a robust vaccine safety program in Canada and that a cautious approach is always taken when specific issues are identified.”
He says he still strongly recommends everyone get the flu shot.
Dr. Strang says no ill effects have been reported here, nor in the other provinces, aside from New Brunswick, which have used vaccines from that lot.
