We usually have a festive feast of some sort to bring in the New Year. Basically, I think it was just another excuse for a party and we’re not really doing that this year. But it doesn’t seem right to just welcome 2021 by ignoring it. It’s not really its fault that it has to come after 2020.
I know a lot of people are looking forward to saying goodbye to 2020. But everything will not magically change at midnight Thursday. We’ll still be facing many of the same challenges we faced in 2020. Only now there seems to be some hope it will come to an end. Just not on Friday. It will take a while. Probably a fairly long while.
So celebrating the end of 2020 doesn’t seem quite right. 2021 will still have issues.
Although I have to say there were some good points to 2020. Family stuck around a lot closer to home, so I actually got to see them more often, once we worked out how to do that safely. So 2020 wasn’t all bad.
But it is still tough to find a lot to cheer about for the past year.
I am one of those people who used to love year end lists. You know. Like the best movies of the past year. This year, I haven’t heard of most of them. And no, I will not subscribe to a hundred different streaming services to find them all. I could go through other areas of pop culture with similar results. We’re all familiar with the top news stories of the past year. We kind of lived through that.
So what the perfect way to say goodbye to 2020 and welcome 2021? What sort of festive feast is appropriate? There are a few options, but it’s hard to find the perfect thing. Although, really, a big feed of baloney might be the perfect thing. Somehow, it just seems the best way to say goodbye to 2020.
