A large animal seizure was conducted last week in Shelburne County.
On January 5th, four horses, two pigs, and a number of poultry were seized by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment from a property in Smithsville.
After several warnings and attempts to bring the animals living conditions to compliance under the Animal Protection Act since the spring of 2020, the animals were removed from the lot.
The owner has until January 12th, 2021 to appeal the decision of having the animals taken away, otherwise ownership of the animals will be taken over by the Department of Environment.
Currently, the seized animals are being cared for by a foster farm.
As of the time of reporting, the Nova Scotia Department of Environment has not laid any charges against the owner.
The investigation is ongoing.
