More South Shore Communities to Get High Speed Internet

Another handful of South Shore communities are on the shortlist to receive access to high speed Internet.

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg will invest over $176,000 to bring around 530 homes and businesses access to Bell’s fibre network.

The network will provide residents with download speeds up to 1.5 gigabits.

As part of the provincial Internet for Nova Scotia initiative, 10 more communities will be added to the network.

those include:

• Tancook Islands
• Camperdown East
• Crouse’s Settlement
• Newcombville
• Petite Riviere
• Masons Beach
• Blue Rocks
• Clearland
• Voglers/Broad Cove
• Bayport/Kingsburg

In a release, MODL mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson said since 2016 they’ve increased connections from 60 to 72 per cent, a 12 per cent increase.

“Improving high-speed Internet connectivity continues to be a high priority for this Council,” she said.

“We will increase our fibre footprint to over 98 per cent by the end of 2023.”

She says access to connections will be ongoing up to and including that date.

More information about the Internet for Nova Scotia initiative can be found here.

Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said connections were increased by 60-72 per cent since 2016. The story has been corrected.
