I find it confusing. A year ago, we were hoping that maybe, if we were really lucky, we might have a vaccine about six months from now. It was going to take some time. That’s what we were told.
Then it appeared much quicker than expected, which is a good thing. Now everyone wants it… NOW.
We went through a period where it seemed every story on the news was about how vaccines were so slow in coming. Who was to blame? How can we fix this?
We weren’t even supposed to have them yet, but we still seemed to be all excited about the fact that they weren’t here?
Then, yesterday, when the province opened up their booking site for vaccine appointments, it crashed. Too many people trying to book all at the same time. I saw some people commenting about the fact they thought it was strange those who are over 80 were spending so much time online they would crash the site. I know quite a few people in that age group who are very used to using computers. And those that aren’t quite likely know someone who is. It really wasn’t a surprise.
There are a lot of people who would like this all to be over with. I can understand that. But we’ve been dealing with this for a year now. We can hang on a bit longer.
There are older members of my family I would love to see get the vaccine and be safe. However, they may not be at the first of the line. They may have to wait for a more convenient place and time, because standing in line in the cold may not be something they can do. And it is something they were warned to be prepared for. So we all might have to wait a bit longer.
But it’s coming. We’ve made it this far, we can go a bit further. A friend said to me not long ago they were starting to get used to this hermit lifestyle. Which is a good thing, since we’ll probably be doing it for a little while yet.
But at least the end is in sight.
