Public Health Does 830 COVID Tests At Italy Cross Fire Hall

Nova Scotia Public Health did 830 COVID-19 tests over the weekend at the Italy Cross Fire Hall.

Holly Gillis, manager of Public Health Mobile Units, said they were pleased with the turnout.

“We knew there was a confirmed case of COVID-19 on the South Shore area. So we encouraged anyone between Hebbville and Middlewood to come out and [we’re] really happy folks did come out,” she said in an interview.

She noted that for many people who came out this was their first COVID test.

“That’s what we try to do with the mobile unit: we try to make testing easy, accessible and available to all nova scotians regardless of where you live.”

The CKBW newsroom has reached out to the Nova Scotia Health Authority to determine if any positive tests were found during the three days of testing.

There isn’t any further testing planned for the area right now.

“We continue to watch any areas that have a positive case in the region and work with others on the Public Health team to determine if we do need to set up in that area to offer community-based testing,” Gillis said.
