The Zen of Budget Day

I used to get worked up about things like federal budgets. Trying to figure out if it really meant anything to me or not. Now I have a different approach.

First, I started to notice I was never in the proper demographic for any government to want to appeal to me. I’m not sure how that happens, but it always seems to be that most good things that pop up in budgets don’t do anything for me. So I have reached the point where I just sort of ignore them.

I’m sure there will be some things that people like and some that people don’t like. And some people that will find reasons not to like them just because they are determined to not like anything these people do because they would rather have other people in charge.

The older I get, the more I wonder if any of it really makes a difference. They all do what they do and we end up paying for it. Some of it is good, some of it not so good. Some we agree with, some we don’t. Some taxes will likely go up, some may come down.

Although it also seems that the closer we may be getting to an election, the less bad news is likely to appear in a budget. And since we could be getting close to such a time, it probably won’t be a bad news sort of budget.

Then we will sit through several weeks of hearing why it is both good and bad, depending on who is talking about it.

The only thing that I can see is it is somehow comforting that the government is figuring out how to spend money I haven’t made for them yet. They seem to have a lot of confidence in my ability to pay for these things. Which kind of makes me feel better about myself. In a strange sort of way.
