Earth Day Litter Clean Up A Chance To Show “Community Pride”

The Lunenburg Regional Community Recycling Centre is getting set to host its Earth Day litter clean up challenge on Wednesday.

Stephanie Smits of the recycling centre says that while registration for the event is lower this year, they hope more people will sign up in the coming days.

The event is being held in advance of Earth Day on April 22.

Smits called the event a chance to show some “community pride.”

“If you leave litter along the roadside, it tends to attract more littering — so we want to try and curb that behaviour,” she says.

Smits also notes that some areas, such as highway 325 between Bridgewater and Blockhouse, need attention more than others.

People can register as groups or individuals. And, if it doesn’t fit your schedule, you can still register and participate in the days before and after Earth Day.

Each individual or group will be given gloves, bags and a certificate of recognition for their work. All participants will be required to follow public health guidelines around gathering sizes.

To register, simply call the recycling centre at 902-543-2991.
