Last night was our weekly Lions Radio Bingo with a forced Loonie Jar worth 15000 being forced to go, and my wife Karen got caught up in the excitement! She spent the hour before it began looking for her “lucky” Bingo dauber.
“Lucky?”, says I.
“Yes I’ve had it for many, many years and I do better when I have it”
She then proceeded to tell me about when she was a young girl and how her mom would persuade her to come to Bingo with her.
When I was just starting out in radio I used to supplement my meagre income by calling Bingo at the Halifax forum. It was an educational experience.
People had some very elaborate “shrines” set up at their table and heaven help you if you touched the lucky items.
Others had a lucky bracelet or article of clothing they had to wear.
Some were more scientific and had a ridiculous amount of cards in front of them – NASA could have hired these people to work at the space centre during rocket launches as they were the most amazing multi-taskers.
What’s your memory of Bingo when you were young?
