A man responsible for bringing minor league football to the South Shore has passed away.
According to a post on the Seahawks Minor Football Facebook page, Gary Linthorne died on Saturday.
Linthorne and his close friend John Peters were a major force behind creating the Seahawks football program.
Together, they organized learn to play sessions for kids in the Bridgewater area and built the football program from the ground-up nearly 10 years ago.
Linthorne coached and served as president of the Seahawks.
The post stated Linthorne battled a brief illness before he died and he will be fondly remembered for the impact he had on the teams he coached and the community.
He was 74.
