BREAKING: Teacher’s Union And Government To Return To Negotiation Table

The premier is asking the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union to come back to the negotiating table.

In a letter to the minister of labour, Stephen McNeil says the past two weeks of work-to-rule has negatively impacted students which he says is unacceptable.

McNeil also asked the minister to appoint a conciliation officer to help the parties reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, the NSTU has agreed to return to the table.

President Liette Doucet says she’s hopeful this request from the premier is a signal the government is ready to change their approach.

She says the union is ready to restart negotiations with an open mind.

No timetable has been set.

The two sides haven’t met since November 25.
