Parents Save Kids Christmas Concert

Not even work to rule could keep Christmas from coming for grade primary students at Bluenose Academy.

The students had been preparing a Christmas concert.

But with extra-curriculars cancelled because of the labour dispute between the NSTU and the province the concert was called off.

Parent, Chasidy Veinotte-Dorey wasn’t about to let her son miss out.

“It took one phone call to another parent – started a Facebook page and off it went. The community, all the parents came together of primaries and pulled it off and that’s what you’ve seen here tonight.”

Veinotte-Dorey says nobody wants to wade into the middle of the labour dispute.

“Kids don’t understand work-to-rule. That means nothing to them. They are going to remember tonight eating cookies, decorating ornaments and singing Jingle Bells to their parent. And that’s what I’m going to remember tonight.”

A local church donated space and parents organized the evening.

Veinotte-Dorey says she knows people around all sides of the issue, but the night was about keeping Christmas for the kids.
