Vote counting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Election Nova Scotia (ENS) will start counting some votes as early as 6:30 p.m. even though voting will end in most districts at 8 p.m.

Live Feed Results

Elections Nova Scotia will provide a live feed of the unofficial results as each poll is reported.

Vote Count Update

There is a provision in the Elections Act for write-in ballot polls to be counted early (before the close of polls at 8 pm) at the Chief Electoral Officer’s discretion.

In a release sent out on Tuesday evening, Election Nova Scotia indicates workers will begin counting all out-of-district write-in ballots at 6:30 p.m. in Dartmouth.

The volumes of in-district write-in ballots cast in electoral districts does not warrant starting their counting early. The counting of all in-district write-in ballot polls in electoral districts will commence in their home returning offices at 8:00 p.m.

The Chief Electoral Officer, Richard Temporale has indicated he may need to end the vote count at midnight if it looks like it could go extremely late due to worker fatigue.

If this occurs, counting and live feed results would resume at 10 am on Wednesday, August 18th. Elections Nova Scotia will communicate any decisions regarding the counting as soon as possible.
