Lower Prices, Weather Story Of Lobster Season So Far

A lobster fisherman says they can’t seem to gain any ground when it comes to prices.

The season opening price was $5.25, but the price today is $7.

Bernie Berry of the Coldwater Lobster Association says fishermen need to be more engaged when it comes to what they get for their product.

He says there doesn’t seem to be any sense as to how prices are set.

“It’s great that the price is now $7, but we’re so heavily dependent on the first two or three weeks, that’s when we need a good price when we’re landing the majority of our product.”

He says fishermen lost time because of recent bad weather.

Berry estimates they are down about 50 per cent of what they were last year at this time.
