A woman who has been dubbed “the most brilliant pianist of her generation” is making a stop in Lunenburg.
The Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance is hosting Argentina-born Martha Argerich from March 31-April 2, 2017.
She will visit the international centre for advanced studies in performance and music interpretation to teach two classes and perform together with local master Walter Delahunt.
Artistic Director Burt Wathen says it’s an exciting opportunity.
“She is an amazing artist who has bucked the trend and is a symbol for women musicians.”
Argerich’s appearance in Lunenburg is one of only two for her in North America in 2017; the other being in Los Angeles.
She was recently presented Kennedy Center honours by U.S. President Barack Obama.
Students from Austria, the Netherlands, New York and Toronto will take part in the event.
