Don’t Touch The Cruise Control

We’re expecting some rain today. It’s not supposed top be huge amounts, but it could be heavy rain at times. Particularly if we get some of the thunder showers coming through as the weather has been mentioning.

While driving, heavy rain by itself can cause a few issues. Like poor visibility and possible hydroplaning. But our reliance on technology can also add to the problems. Like using cruise control in heavy rain.

I’ll admit, I’m guilty. I spend a fair amount of time on the highway and clicking on the cruise control can be pretty much second nature. And I have to constantly keep reminding myself it’s not a good idea in the rain.

Honestly, one of the big reasons I like using the cruise control is that it keeps me at a fairly constant speed. Once I have it turned on, I don’t have to be overly concerned with my speed creeping up. I have managed to get this far in my life without a speeding ticket, which is something I would like to continue.

But cruise control in the rain is not really a good idea. It can actually lead to hydroplaning and a loss of control.

I have had vehicles where the cruise control seemed to cut out if the tires lost traction, but it’s really not something you want to experiment with. But since I use it fairly often, I have to remind myself to keep my hands off it in bad weather.

This probably isn’t something you don’t already know, but if you’re like me, a reminder won’t hurt.

Stay safe. And try to stay dry.
