Former Top South Shore Doctor Retiring

A former president and CEO of the South Shore Health Authority is retiring.

Dr. Peter Vaughan spent eight years in the authority before it merged along with others to become the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

Vaughan has spent the last two-and-a-half years as the deputy minister of health and wellness for Nova Scotia.

He says tremendous work was done in his time here to improve the health-care system.

“The redevelopment of Queens General (Hospital) and the collaborative practice in there; the collaborative practice we put into Bridgewater; the development of the collaborative practice in Chester; it was very fulfilling to be a part of.”

Vaughan will officially be retired at midnight on December 31.

He says it will be an extra special happy new year.

Vaughan says the future of health-care in Nova Scotia looks bright with the one person one record electronic medical information system.

“Which will improve services to people and allow our aging population to stay in their home longer, to have the best services in their homes using the tools of the modern world.”

He will continue living in Nova Scotia and plans to write a second book.
