Nova Scotia Health is once again accepting referrals for its medically assisted dying program after a backlog.
New referrals for Medical Assistance in Dying were placed on a thirty day pause in September due to what officials called a “significant backlog” caused by an increase in demand.
A news release from Nova Scotia Health says it’s coming back a week earlier than planned.
Officials say the temporary pause was necessary to ensure people already awaiting an assessment could be seen in a “timely manner.”
Several new assessors have come forward and the health authority is in the process of hiring a new full-time nurse practitioner.
