My first Halloween costume that I remember wearing was a cowboy outfit with the hat, vest, chaps and guns. I’d wear that most of the year but at Halloween I added the black eye mask and became the Lone Ranger. I think the after school kids shows on tv like Firehouse Frolics would get old serials like the Lone Ranger and show 15 or 20 minute segments each day.
I vaguely remember one year I was a lumberjack with a fake axe and I remember mom burned the end of a cork to put black on my face to simulate a beard.
Sadly I never got to be a superhero or a monster because the masks and costumes were just too expensive for our budget.
But the Lone Ranger was kind of a superhero, so there was that.
