A Day To Remember

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day. A day to remember those who serve, have served on our behalf, to allow us to live the life we have.

I have known many. But I have heard few stories.

That’s one thing that always stands out to me. The reluctance to speak of their experiences.

There were a few who seemed to not mind telling their takes, but not many. And I have asked over the years. I got the odd story about being frozen in your hammock while at sea during the winter, or things that may have happened while on leave, or the fact that Christmas dinner out of a can was not a big treat. Not the type of stories one might have expected.

Then again, maybe they were the stories we needed. We didn’t need to know the details of the bad things that happened. Whether it was to protect us or it was a place they didn’t want to go, either way, it doesn’t matter.

There were a lot of people who sacrificed for us.

That’s all we really need to know. They deserve our respect and a moment of thoughtful remembrance for making that sacrifice.

If you can, go to a service tomorrow. Although it would be best to check what is happening in your area. There are still some restrictions that may change some of the services and the way they are carried out. They deserve to have their wishes respected.

At the very least, take a couple minutes at 11:00 AM to reflect and remember. Or join us on CKBW as we carry the service from Bridgewater.
