Nova Scotia is reporting 1,020 new cases of COVID-19 and 36 people are in hospital with the virus.
It’s the second straight day positive lab tests topped 1,000 per day but the focus is shifting to hospitalizations over case count.
Thirty-one people have been admitted since Omicron arrived in our province.
Four people are in intensive care.
People aged 19 to 98 are in hospital and the patients are vaccinated to some degree.
No new public health restrictions are being introduced at the moment, but officials are watching the situation closely.
Ontario and Quebec have implemented strict lockdown measures including shutting down restaurants and implementing a curfew.
Dr. Robert Strang says the hospital system is managing even though case numbers are high.
He says they still have many staff out sick or isolating.
Positive cases must isolate for 10 days but the province may reduce that to five days later this week.
