Dress Up Your Pet Day

I just happened to notice that today is Dress Up Your Pet Day. Sounds like it might be fun. Possibly even dangerous, depending on the pet.

My dog does not really go for extensive outfits. She does however love her scarves and seems to feel undressed without one. At least I assume that. When I take one off because it is either about to fall apart or needs to be laundered, she immediately comes running over to put a fresh one on. No chasing her around or anything like that. She wants that thing around her neck.

The first evidence of animals getting fancied up apparently comes from ancient Egypt, where decorative dog collars have been found. There is evidence the collar was around much longer, but it seems the ancient Egyptians turned it into a fashion accessory. And we’ve just gone from there.

But other than a collar and a scarf, that’s about it for my dog. She’s not really into sweaters or clothing of anything like that. Not even in cold weather. In fact, she seems to prefer cold weather and it’s rather difficult to get her in out of it some days.

My cat, however, is not into accessories of any kind. She isn’t an overly large cat, but if you try to put something on her she will fight you. And likely win.

There is also a fish that lives with us, but again, not really into fashion.

I know there are people who have clothing for their pets, even costumes. Some of them look pretty cool, but most times the animal does not look like they are really enjoying the experience as much as we do.

So dress up your pet day is pretty low key around my place. Mostly because of the pets. They’re just not into the getting dressed up thing. And I respect that. The dog is pretty strong and the cat has claws and is not afraid to use them.

Maybe we’ll just celebrate with a a bag of storm chips. Everyone except the fish can go for that. All dressed of course.
