Woman who murdered daughter given temporary passes from prison

A Bridgewater woman who murdered her 12 year-old daughter is now allowed to attend church and visit a family friend.

The National Parole Board granted Penny Boudreau seven escorted day passes during a hearing on Nov. 25, 2021.

Justice Minister Brad Johns was asked by reporters whether or not the province supported the decision.

“At the end of the day, it really is a decision that was made at the federal level by the National Parole Board, so it would almost be inappropriate for me to comment on it,” Johns said. “But I certainly understand how people in Bridgewater are feeling.”

Boudreau originally told police her daughter was kidnapped before pleading guilty to strangling her; she was handed a life sentence with no chance of parole for 20 years in 2009.

Since then, she’s been granted passes to attend church on several occasions — which the Parole Board took into consideration when approving her most recent request.

The passes are part of her reintegration into society.
