NS RCMP Release Annual Impaired Driving Statistics

The Nova Scotia RCMP have released the number of people charged with impaired driving for 2021.

They say in total 1,398 people faced impaired driving related charges.

668 charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Alcohol.

102 charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Drug.

114 charged with Refusal of a Demand Made by a Peace Officer.

514 issued driving suspensions for Operating a Conveyance While Having Consumed Alcohol.

Cpl. Chris Marshall said there are signs to look for that can point toward someone who is driving impaired.

“If you are following a vehicle that is primarily having fluctuations in speed, or is moving side to side in its lane, or is swerving in and out of lanes, I would certainly call 911 if you think it’s an emergency.” Said Marshall.

Cpl. Marshall added that many of the impaired drivers who get caught, come in as 911 calls from the public.
