I hope you didn’t miss it. Yesterday was Cheese Lovers Day. Not to be confused with National Cheese Day. That’s in June. But is there really a bad day for cheese?
I like cheese. Various cheeses, to be honest. It’s hard to pick a favourite. I like mild cheeses. I like strong cheeses. Yesterday, I even had something for lunch I hadn’t tried before. A brie sandwich.
I would usually just have my brie separate, maybe with a few crackers or perhaps a bit of bread. But I had a bun, I had some cheese, and I just decided to make it a bit more portable, so I turned it into a sandwich. And it was quite tasty.
The fact that it was Cheese Lovers Day did not escape my notice. It was on the milk calendar. The spot I have for a calendar in the kitchen happens to be quite narrow. I am also one of those strange people who still gets a daily paper delivered. I do realize the proper term to describe a person like this would be “old”, but I’m okay with that. Because a get a free calendar. Each year, a calendar from some milk marketing bunch comes with the paper. And it happens to be narrow, which fits the space I have for it. There are also some pretty tasty recipes on there. And special days, particularly those related to dairy consumption. Like Cheese Lovers Day.
So I celebrated with a brie sandwich. But it could have been pretty much any variety of cheese. I like a lot of them, and I like to try different ones. Although after a while it does get harder to find cheeses I haven’t tried.
But I enjoy mild cheese, medium cheese and even stronger cheese. Cheese that seem to make others run away. Like blue cheese or Stilton. Cheese that has visible mold growing on it.
I will draw the line at that cheese they serve with actual little creepy crawly things on it. Cheese should not be able to run away.
But I like most cheeses. Although it confuses me a bit. Since cheese is really milk that has gone bad, does cheese ever really go bad? It’s usually a question I don’t have to worry about. It doesn’t last that long.
