Cars That Fly

Many people have dreamed of the day when they could be just like George Jetson, heading to and from work in their flying car. That day could be getting closer.

Air-car has been given a certificate of airworthiness in Slovakia.

It took seventy hours of flight and over two hundred takeoffs and landings to get that certificate, so there was a lot of testing involved. And there are a few others not far behind. There are a few companies that want to build flying cars.

I guess they figure we would all want one.

Actually, since many of us aren’t that good while driving on the ground, I’m in no hurry to take to the air. No roads, no traffic lanes, just wide open space. But the fact is, there are too many things that could go wrong. So for now, I’ll just stay on the ground.

Although to operate one of these things, you would need to have a pilots license. Which would be a good thing. But there are a few people who drive cars who make you doubt their qualifications at times.

While it seems to be a great idea to avoid traffic and just fly wherever you want to go, it probably won’t be for everyone. The air-car is pretty nifty. It operates on regular gas and takes a bit over two minutes to convert to a plane. And it’s going to take a while longer before you see them go into production. Once they do, there are likely to be a whole lot of new regulations. Or at least you would hope so.

The thing is, the long dreamed of future may finally be getting close.

Although I’d rather see Rosie the robot arrive first.
