The presence of bird flu in our province is triggering trade restrictions for Canada.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says it’s due to an outbreak of the highly infectious virus in a commercial poultry flock.
Canada’s animal health status has now been updated to say it’s not free from avian influenza.
Restrictions have been placed on Canadian poultry by many including Hong Kong, South Africa, South Korea, the U.S., Mexico, the Russian Federation, Japan and the European Union.
The restrictions vary from covering all live poultry, poultry meat, and eggs across Canada to products only from western Nova Scotia.
Environment Canada reminds you it’s important to report any dead or sick wild birds amid the spread of the virus.
If you find a dead, injured or a sick wild bird – don’t touch it – Report it immediately!
