P.E.I. Dropping ‘Vax Pass’ Monday

Prince Edward Island will drop its proof-of-vaccination system next Monday as transmission between fully vaccinated residents rises.

At a news conference on Wednesday, P.E.I. Premier Dennis King said the “Vax Pass” was always meant to be a time-limited measure.

“As we move through the last stages of this pandemic, the requirement for PEI Vax Pass for discretionary activities will be removed effective February the 28th at 12:01 a.m,” King said.

It differs from the previous indication by the province that vaccine passports would remain in place until step 3 of its transition plan, which was slated to begin in April.

King credited the system for reducing transmission during the Delta COVID-19 wave. He noted residents continue to have protection against the virus through testing, masking and capacity limits.
