Lawyers representing families of the victims of Nova Scotia’s mass shooting say they want to hear from RCMP at the scene.
A public inquiry into the 22 murders is examining police response in Portapique, N.S. and probing whether more could have done to save lives.
However, legal counsel for the National Police Federation says the inquiry is required to take “trauma-informed approach”.
The federal represents about 20,000 members of the RCMP.
The federation believes asking officers to testify would be contrary to its mandate.
A ruling on the matter will need to come from the three commissioners leading the probe.
