Get ready to spring ahead: Daylight Saving Time kicks in Sunday

Your clock will jump ahead this weekend.

The second Sunday of March always marks our switch to Daylight Saving Time.

The change officially kicks in at 2 a.m. when our clocks spring ahead one hour.

It was originally adopted during the First and Second World Wars as an emergency measure to save electricity and fuel.

The debate over its use continues with some provinces like Yukon and most of Saskatchewan no longer practicing the biannual change.

Officials also say it’s a good time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

You’ll regain that hour of sleep on the first Sunday in November when the clocks fall back to standard time.
