The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg is expanding access to their Low-Income Homeowners Rebate by increasing the income threshold.
Previously households with annual incomes less than $29,999 could apply for a rebate on their property taxes, with the maximum rebate being $500.
This year households that earn less than $38,000 will be eligible for a maximum rebate of $530.
MODL Mayor Carolyn Bolivar says the increase is a response to inflation and rising costs of living many residents of the MODL are subject to.
“We recognize that this is a very difficult environment for low-income property owners,” says Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson. “The Property Tax Exemption is one of the many ways the municipality supports our residents facing financial hardship.”
Applications for the rebate will open on April 15, with applications due by August 1, however, the MODL says it’s possible applications will be accepted year-round if funding allows.
