My first car that I bought with my own money was an early 70’s Mercury Capri.
It was a manual transmission. I had never driven stick before.
I learned to drive manual on it.
Unfortunately on a date with my girlfriend the gear shifter broke off and I had to drive home in 2nd gear.
Thankfully it was a cheap repair, nothing compared to the next car that was automatic transmission that failed after 2 days.
After the cost of the transmission repair, I vowed to never buy an automatic transmission again, and I’ve kept my promise.
