MODL seeking resident feedback as they consider boundary changes

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL) is seeking input from its residents as they consider changes to the polling districts of the municipality.

The MODL is exploring changes as part of a requirement from the Nova Scotia’s Municipal Government Act which mandates municipalities conduct a study of the number of councilors and the boundaries of polling districts in 2022.

Currently, there are 10 Councillors elected by polling districts and 1 Mayor, elected at large, to make decisions for the Municipality regarding services, policies, and programs.

With the current amount of councilors and the existing boundaries in the MODL, each councilor represents around 2,555 electors.

The provincial average per councilor in all municipalities across Nova Scotia is approximately 1,915.

The MODL has launched a survey for residents to offer their input and a virtual public meeting is planned for Tuesday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m.

You can participate in the survey until the end of June, and you must register ahead of time to attend the virtual meeting, links to do both can be found on the MODL webpage.

Any changes coming from this review will not come into effect until the 2024 Municipal Election.
