Barrington Council Wants Shelburne To Stay In South Shore Riding

A municipal council in Shelburne County is concerned about potential changes to federal electoral boundaries.

Barrington council held a special meeting last week, and voted to write a letter to the boundaries commission, expressing their desire to stay in the riding of South Shore/St. Margarets.

The commission is recommending combining Shelburne with West Nova, to create a new ‘Acadian Shore-Shelburne’ riding.

Warden Eddie Nickerson says Barrington has been part of the South Shore riding for over 50 years.

“We’ve been represented well by both parties that have held the South Shore/St. Margarets riding. We’re happy being part of this riding, we feel economically it’s the same, as we are driven by the lobster fishery,” says Nickerson.

Council also requested a public consultation be held in Shelburne County, in addition to ones planned for Yarmouth and Bridgewater next month.
