Nova Scotian shrimp boat heading home after ice damage

The Mersey Phoenix is cutting its fishing trip short after it struck ice while in transit in the Labrador Sea.

The shrimp factory boat is believed to have sustained minor damage to its hull after it struck some ice.

Mersey Seafoods operates the Phoenix and CEO Greg Simpson says there is no cause for concern, “We cut the trip short so we could get the ship back into port and get a closer look at what’s going on, but this is part of the business of fishing in arctic waters,” Simpson said.

The Phoenix is now en route to its homeport of Country Harbour in Guysborough County.
