Lunenburg Vying For Kraft Hockeyville

Lunenburg and the South Shore Minor Hockey Association are trying to put their community on the map.

The two units are applying for this year’s Kraft Hockeyville competition.

The contest runs nationwide and provides up to $100,000 for arena upgrades.

Association Vice-President, Jamie Myra, says Lunenburg is in need of a new zamboni.

“The current zamboni at the Lunenburg Arena is two years away from being 30 years old. In the automobile world, that’s two years away from having antique plates, I guess.”

A cheer night will be held Saturday evening at 5:30 at the Lunenburg arena.

It will feature a Bantam ‘A’ hockey game between the South Shore Ice Sharks and Yarmouth Mariners.

The community is encouraged to wear jerseys, make posters and support the Hockeyville application.

Other arenas putting in nominations include the Eleanor Pew Memorial Arena in Chester, the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena in Barrington and the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre in Bridgewater.
