A Walk In The Park

I am a fan of rhododendrons. There are a lot of different colours and types of them, and they all seem to have their own schedule to bloom, although they are around this time of year.

The fact that these same types of plants have become a huge nuisance in some parts of the U.K., where they have taken over huge areas and made impenetrable forests in some area I find quite astounding. There have even been stories of people lost in the rhododendrons that have needed rescue, the plants are so thick.

Thankfully, we don’t have that problem around here. But there are still a lot of very lovely rhododendrons waving their flowers around at this point in the year.

While many of them are in people’s yards and you can see them by just taking a drive. Although these days that can make for some pretty pricey flower viewing.

But since I live in Liverpool, I make a point of going to Pine Grove Park in Milton every year around this time. There is a marvelous bunch of rhododendrons scattered amoung the pine trees. It makes for a lovely picturesque walk. My dog also likes it, but she seems more interested in the squirrels for some reason.

These rhododendrons were planted many years ago, and have grown into some quite impressive plants. I have a few around my place, but nothing the size of some of these, some of which would easily exceed twenty feet in height.

At the moment, quite a few are open, but there are still quite a few that are about to bloom. I was there earlier in the week, but still have to make a point to go back in another few days. Just to have another look at the rhododendrons.

And it’s not like I can’t use the exercise.
