‘As you wish:’ Princess Bride star coming to Hal-Con

Organizers of Hal-Con can now finally say “as you wish” to fans of The Princess Bride.

They’ve announced special guest Cary Elwes will be coming to the celebration this October of all things sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming related.

It’s the first time since the pandemic the event will be back at full capacity. A scaled-back convention was held last year with a focus on local due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Elwes is the most recent guest to be announced for 2022 after fans asking for him to make an appearance for years.

“We’ve received many requests for this next actor over the years – and now we can finally say it … As you wish! We’re thrilled to welcome Cary Elwes,” the group says in a Tweet.

Elwes is probably best known for his role as Westley, a farmboy-turned-pirate who is on a quest to save his true love Princess Buttercup in 1987’s The Prince Bride.

He’s also starred in Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Georgia Rule, Saw, Kiss the Girls, Days of Thunder, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Twister, The Jungle Book, Ella Enchanted, and Liar, Liar.

Most recently he appeared in Netflix’s hit “Stranger Things.”

Other guests include author John Scalzi, comic creator Jim Zub, and actor DB Woodside. You might know Woodside as Amenadiel from “Lucifer” or as Jeff Malone, love interest to Gina Torres, on “Suits.”

Hal-Con will be held at the Halifax Convention Centre on October 28th-30th. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
