Lifeguard supervision starts tomorrow at many beaches across Nova Scotia.
Most beaches will be supervised from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service will have lifeguards on duty until August 28th.
The only exception is Mavillette Beach in Digby County, which is supervised on weekends only.
The province says Clam Harbour Beach in the HRM won’t be supervised initially, but recruitment efforts are ongoing.
Director Paul d’Eon says it’s important to practice safety on the water.
“We want you to be safe out there, keep an eye on your kids, wear your personal floatation devices, and remember that alcohol and water don’t mix, so let’s have a great, safe summer,” says d’Eon.
The service is contracted through the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables.
Over 4,900 rescues have been done in 50 years of lifeguard service.
Last year, 100 rescues were performed.
