A Nova Scotian NHL blueliner is hosting a summer hockey school this week in Yarmouth.
Defenseman Ryan Graves of the New Jersey Devils, along with several on-ice instructors are putting on the camp for minor hockey players.
Graves says it’s about growing the game in our province.
“It’s great to see what’s coming out of this end of Nova Scotia, and it shows what kind of steps we’re taking. I’m always proud to see more people come up through the system,” says Graves.
He’s coming off his first season with the Devils, and represented Team Canada at the World Hockey Championship in May, where he was named a top three player and won a silver medal.
Graves has been training at his offseason home in Charlottetown.
He says he’s proud to represent the area.
“To show that you can make it, even though it’s a bit harder of a journey. Hockey Nova Scotia is making great strides with Major Bantam and improving development for kids, so that’s a step in the right direction.”
Graves says he wanted to give this opportunity to young hockey players from the South Shore, who would normally have to travel for camps like this.
