The trial for a former broadcaster began today in Toronto.
Jian Ghomeshi is facing four counts of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance by choking.
Jeanne Fay, Coordinator for Second Story Women’s Centre in Lunenburg, says the case is important.
She says if the victims are bullied while giving their testimony it will send a strong message to assault survivors.
“‘You better stay home and keep your mouth shut,’ because look at what happens to women who do go through the court system.” she says.
Fay hopes the conversation sparked by the high profile case will continue no matter the outcome.
Around 88% of sexual assaults in Lunenburg and Queens Counties go unreported.
