MODL Looks To Reduce Straight Pipes

At least 600 homes along the LaHave River are pouring waste into the water.

In 1993, the Municipality of Lunenburg counted how many properties didn’t have a sufficient sewer system.

In the 23 years since then, only 200 homes have fixed the problem.

Acting Director of Engineering, Satu Peori, says help is available.

“Homeowners who do want to put in a sewer system,” she says, “could get part of the cost subsidized.”

Peori says parts of the river are so contaminated that it’s dangerous if skin comes in contact with the water. S

he says the goal is to help upgrade 100 homes a year.
