Boil Water Advisory In Chester

A boil water advisory is in effect for parts of Chester.

The Department of Environment placed the advisory on homes and businesses from Central Street to Water Street and Union Street to South Street.

Bacteria was found through routine testing of an old dug well on Pleasant Street.

A sewage line break led to bacteria in the well, which has since been repaired.

Water needs to be boiled for at least a minute before it can be used for things like drinking, cooking, washing fruits and vegetables or brushing teeth.

If boiling water is not possible, people should use bottled water.

People will be notified when the advisory is lifted.
