N.S. to hold first monkeypox vaccine clinic

Nova Scotia is gearing up to offer its first monkeypox vaccine clinic.

People at the highest risk of getting the virus will soon be eligible to book a free pre-exposure vaccine appointment.

The clinic will be hosted by the Halifax Sexual Health Centre, which expects to have a supply starting the week of September 19th.

Monkeypox spreads through close contact and can include a rash or sores that usually start on the face, legs or arms.

So far, it has been reported mostly among men who identify as gay or bisexual, or men who have sex with men.

More details about appointment bookings are set to be released soon.

Work is also underway to set up more pre-exposure vax programs in other areas of the province.
