I do it each year around this time. I know I have most of the recommended items they say to have on hand for emergencies. But it tends to sprout legs over the course of a year.
After I got most everything put away so it won’t blow around, except that bicycle someone left leaning against the shed, still have to put that away, I have started searching for the other things I know I have for emergencies.
Like flashlights. I know I have them. I’ve seen them. The most recent sightings were in the hands of grandchildren, running around the back yard at night. I know they came back inside. The job is to find them. And batteries. They might come in handy.
There are always a few cans of various types of food in the cupboard. I even know where a can opener might be. Although I don’t dare touch it without causing a stampede of cats. And how is it they are born with the knowledge of what a can opener sounds like and what it does?
If you check a list of the sorts of things that are recommended, you will even find things like dust masks. Got plenty of those around for some reason. Wet wipes? Same there.
I might not have an actual first aid kit. Although I have all the bits and pieces and then some. Just have to drag it all to one place.
There are many other things on the list. Proper clothing, battery powered radio, phone charger. Seasonal clothing, check. Garbage bags, lots of those around.
Pet food, medications, personal hygiene items… all taken care of. I even have a plan for making coffee without the coffee maker if I have to. I might want to pick up a few extra batteries, but I should have most of the things around the house. They were all in one place last year about this time. Then they wandered off to various location around the house.
Although it will probably be easier to survive the storm than it is getting through the scavenger hunt to get prepared for it.
