Maybe I Should Have One

Thankfully, many of us in this part of the province didn’t need to have a standby source of electricity over the past few days. There are many that did however, and some still do. Speaking with family and friends in harder hit areas makes me realize how lucky we were. And thinking back, there have certainly been times when it would be handy to have a generator.

As with a lot of these things, we often don’t think about it until we need it. Or at least I don’t. I know many others who have generators close by, ready to be put into service when needed. Some are just small units where they need to run extension cords to a few essential appliances. Other have them wired in, some even with a automatic start, so you barely know the power is out.

But it’s not something I have considered. Although there have been times of prolonged power outages that make you think it might be a good idea.

Living within a town, where you have a town water supply that rarely gets interrupted certainly makes a difference. And for the most part, the power doesn’t go out for that long. But there are those times.

There are a lot of things that are usually higher on my wish list, so I tend not to think about it too often.

Until you need one. Which is then generally too late.

Maybe I should rearrange my list.
