The demand for services from Feed Nova Scotia has gone up significantly since the hurricane hit the province. Executive director Nick Jennery says their first priority has been to distribute food to the hardest hit areas as soon as possible.
They delivered 646 boxes of non-perishable food this week along with food to various comfort centres in the province including the ones in the HRM, Antigonish, and Sydney areas. “Fiona impacted the front-line agencies we support in a variety of ways” says Jennery “Some have just lost their power, other lost their food along with their power, and these organizations are trying to adapt to continue to serve their communities. One way or another we are getting food to where its needed.”
Feed Nova Scotia will be using monetary donations they received from the Government to purchase more food for hard hit communities, and they will write cheques for food service organizations in the province so they can buy things they need to replenish their inventory.
