Today is LED Light Day. In my mind, certainly an improvement over the compact fluorescents, and I really don’t mind spending a bit more for more energy efficient bulbs. But all bulbs are not created equal.
Now I will admit I like to try to keep a couple old fashioned not energy efficient light bulbs squirreled away. I turn one on and sit it near my water pump on evenings when the temperatures might get a bit chilly. I could use a small heater, but a light bulb just seems a bit safer to me. But that is about the only drawback to the newer bulbs. They don’t give off much heat. But really, they’re not meant to be a heater. And I have a couple hidden away.
But the newer bulbs also have one other little thing that some people don’t realize. They come in different colours.
I don’t mean like orange, yellow, green and different colours like that, although you can probably get them. But they range in colour from what they call cool to warm. A slight blue tinge to a slight red tinge.
I am not a fan of the cool blue. I just find that the slight blue tinge bothers me a bit. My wife doesn’t care. She really doesn’t notice the difference and tends to think a light bulb is a light bulb. So when light bulbs go on sale, she will stock up a bit, quite often on the cool blue ones.
Trying to explain that she got the wrong bulbs to someone that doesn’t really see the difference is a bit of a challenge. And maybe I’m just imagining that the blue bothers me. But it ends up with me getting warm colour light bulbs and replacing the cool ones when no one is looking.
It’s one of those situations where it pays to read the small print. At least for some of us.
